How have you used your time during lockdown period?

Updated: Jun 20, 2021

2020 was obviously a different year altogether. It certainly brought something different experiences for most of the people, even in this so-called advance progressed world. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, there were lot of disruptions – that too it continues after the new year. All of a sudden, changes were there in all aspects – in business, in education, in industry, and of course – even for a common man. Impact of these changes are different in nature for every case. But if you look into a small house – a family of four – husband, wife and 2 kids : one can find the following changes –

Working husband/wife : Remote work – no need of going to office or so – mostly working from home. Sometimes, worktime had increased in several cases.

Kids : drastic changes in education for schools/colleges; everything on-line. No personal touch from their teachers. Even along with the kids, suddenly teachers also learning on the new tools for online classes. For teenagers, no practical classes in the school/college labs.

Moreover, most of the time, people are self-locked inside the house. People are going out only for emergency purpose.

Business are not in peak, anxiety is everywhere. Even parents are worried about the kids on their learning – e.g. never thought about Math subjects can be taught online!!

Apart from the uncertainty of the vaccine availability, nobody knows about how long it will continue – people forget their vacations, not able to enjoy during festive seasons.

It’s really tough time for everybody. Salute to those people – who were part of the essential services, medical teams, etc. – taking their own life into risk while serving community.

And the situation was not for few days or weeks – it extended for months after months. Most of the people – who stuck within the four walls - mental stress plays a big role.

I was not exception in this case. I had a very tough time at the beginning. Then I have decided to divert my mind to something else – so that new engagement will eat my time and there will be no scope for something else.

I started listen to more music. Also, I have tried something – which I never tried earlier in my life, like singing. I am a terrible singer – worst than a bathroom singer, but started for a fun, time-pass. I started discussing new topics with family members - it was relatively easier for me as I have grown-up kids.

But most of time, I have allocated for my study. As a life-long learner attitude, I started new technology topics. And I didn’t stop there – even appeared for certification examinations also as I need to check on my learning. Even it was new experience for me – (as I always prefer Pearson VUE center) online exam to be given from my home !!

During this lockdown, I have upgraded Hyperscaler knowledge. Following certifications successfully completed :

  • AWS - Cloud Practitioner(CLF-C01)

  • Azure - SAP Workload(AZ-120), Security(AZ-500), Data Fundamentals(DP-900)

  • GCP - Cloud Engineer(ACE)

  • Alibaba Cloud - Cloud Computing(ACA)

Apart from the above, I have grabbed some knowledge on Software Testing from IIT, Kharagpur and Solar Energy from Indian Institute of Science(IISc), Bangalore.

Also, undergoing a course on Digital Image Processing from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO).

Upgradation of my skill set will definitely help my future as learning is never wasted. What about you? Please don’t forget, time flows, and it never returns – so use your time wisely.
